Training for the Trainer
Workshop Overview:
The workshop will focus on the principles of Adult Education through the development and delivery of training. The use of the Experiential Learning Cycle will be discussed as a basis for design and allow participants to develop a hands approach to quick and easy design methods. The participants will be able to determine that learning is taking place in the learning environment through different methods and will also get a better understanding of the training process in general.
Workshop Expectations:
Participants will be able to
- Develop training concepts around the Experiential Learning Cycle
- Determine who their audience is and what their needs are
- Identify the techniques determining learners needs
- Understand how the learning objective drives the course
- Identify their own training and learning style
- Understand the reasons learners don't get involved
- Develop techniques to design workshops around the four learning styles
- Develop techniques to facilitate effectively for all styles
- Work with lesson plans that are concise and complete
- Improve their own training style
- Overcome any facilitation concerns
Creating Learning Objectives
- Understand the importance of learning objectives for design
- Create learning objectives following a four part model
- Determine learning objectives role in evaluation and delivery
Evaluation of Training
- Determine Kirkpatrick’s four levels of evaluation
- Create reaction sheets to be used in user training
- Create learning activities to “test” the learning objective in the learning environment
Learning Styles
- Develop their personal preferred learning style using David Kolb’s instrument
- Understand how these preferred styles affect the class
- Develop in-class activities that assist the four learning styles
Behind the Presentation
- Maintaining positive body language
- Using power point and other AV aids to assist the presentation
- Reading the audience
- Keeping on track within the presentation
Dealing with Presentation Nerves
- Convert nervous energy into high energy
- Assess conflict issues in the group
- Eliminate physical signs of nervousness
The Presentation Planning and Delivery - Present a 15 minute presentation on own material in-front of a camera with detailed feedback
- Provide feedback to other presenters on their delivery
- Create an action plan for future training opportunities
Note:
David Kolb’s Learning Styles Instrument is used for this workshop.
Group size must be no more than 10 people to get the benefit of the individual training opportunity.
The outline can be customized to suit your particular in house needs.
